Why Mets are right to drive fans insane with Amed Rosario

The impatience is understandable, of course it is. When Mets fans tune into their game every night, they see two alternatives at shortstop, neither of which leaves them especially nourished and satisfied.
You have Asdrubal Cabrera, whose range at the position when he is healthy is about three-quarters the width of his body — and who hasn’t been all that healthy. So while he is still quite capable of making outstanding, heady plays — deking Andrew Alfred Morris Authentic Jersey McCutchen in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago, starting a crucial 6-4-3 double play that all but saved a game in Atlanta over the weekend — he is just as capable of allowing retrievable balls hit just to his left and just to his right skitter into the outfield.
(And, lately, he’s only been about 50-50 on balls hit right at him, too.)
Cabrera has vanished for the next week and a half, aggravating a wrist injury, an ironic twist given he hit two home runs in his most recent game, a 6-1 win over the Cubs on Monday night. That leaves shortstop in the hands of Jose Reyes.
There was a time when that would have been greeted with unbridled delight by a strong majority of Mets fans, who adored him his first time around as a Met and were quick to forgive him when he showed up the second time after serving a hefty suspension for alleged http://www.nikecowboysjerseys.com/alfred-morris-jersey-for-sale-c-51.html domestic abuse.
But that was the Reyes who was a threat to hit 25 triples in a season, to steal 75 bases, who was electric just about every time he stepped in a batter’s box or dashed around the infield or pursued a ball in the field. This Reyes was hitting .188 with a baseball-reference.com WAR of minus-1.2 entering Tuesday.
(Monday night, top of the second inning, Jason Heyward hit a high, lazy pop fly to the left side of the infield. Mets fans have long memories. They easily remembered a pop-up that Reyes dropped that cost them a game against the Phillies in April. They even more easily Изображение remembered a pop-up that Cabrera dropped that should have cost them a game against the Brewers just two weeks ago.
And so in a bar in Tribeca, a crowd of Mets fans swarmed around the bar actually predicted, the moment the ball drifted and held position on the left side of the infield, “This is trouble!” And the second they were proven prophetic, this group of a half-dozen or so screamed, top of their lungs, something that was undoubtedly screamed in every saloon, den or man cave where Mets games are viewed:
“ROSARIO!!!!!!!!!!”)
As in Amed Rosario, but you already knew that, because if the Mets are a part of your bloodstream then so is Rosario, who is the Mets’ top prospect, who is their shortstop-in-waiting, who is 21 years and 205 days old and who has been raking like crazy at Las Vegas Charles Mann Jersey across the first 62 games of the season.
Heading into Tuesday’s game, Rosario had a slash line of .337/.379/.494, he had 11 stolen bases, and if you are smartly unwilling to take hitting stats in the Pacific Coast League at face value, the fact is he was a .324/.374/.459 performer at both Single-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton last year, and neither of those places will ever be confused with Las Vegas. In any category.
So it’s fair to say: The kid can hit. And though he has 11 errors and a .955 fielding percentage (both could be better), some of that can be attributed to Triple-A fields that aren’t quite the polished emeralds that big-league fields are. Of course, for most Mets fans, that’s a matter of semantics.
They want Rosario up here. And there is nothing wrong with that.
But there is nothing wrong with keeping him where he is, with allowing him some more time to work on things that still http://www.authenticnikeredskinshop.com/charley-taylor-jersey-for-sale-c-58.html concern the organization (most notably a habit of chasing balls out of the strike zone, something you can survive doing in the bushes but will absolutely bury you in the bigs).
The Mets were slow to promote Michael Conforto two years ago, partly because they didn’t want a second-year pro feeling he had to bear the burden of the offense. It turned out they were right, both to wait and with their overall concern. Rosario will be here soon enough. But it should be according to schedule to maximize his career, not to be a quick fix, and not to hide present Mets deficiencies.
Bring him up when he’s truly ready. Nothing wrong with that.
